Let’s gather together for a full day, in-person conference

Developmental Sovereignty Symposium

Oregon City, OR

“Let us not ask the child to conform to a world that is over-stimulating, over-sensationalized, over-toxic and overbearing.

Instead, let us seek ways in which the world can conform to the child and be transformed by the child.”

What is Developmental Sovereignty?

Sovereignty is a natural law. We have absolute authority over our own wellbeing. Nobody knows us better than we know ourselves. As parents, nobody knows our child better than we do so only we can decide how best to support the natural, unhurried development of our little humans.

Developmental sovereignty is the gift we give back to our children when we allow them the freedom to develop at their own pace in their own time, unencumbered by the judgements and conditioning of those in their outside environment. The pursuit of developmental sovereignty for our children gives us permission to think and act differently in support of them. Schools may tell you that your child needs to conform to a certain style of learning, doctors may tell you that your child is not meeting arbitrary “standardized milestones”, putting you in a state of worry.

Developmental sovereignty is making choices and taking action from a place of love rather than fear when we look at the child before us. In this way, we have the freedom to recalibrate and move away from the external messaging of “less than”.

Every child is a beacon of light. You have the choice to follow that light and forge a new path.

Our children are asking to be seen. Intuition and a desire to listen deeply to what the child is asking for is imperative in these times. This symposium pulls together some of the wisdom-keepers of golden childhood to ignite the flame within us to create a bountiful, safe environment for these beings to land and flourish in their own time, expressing their own will forces in beauty and connection to themselves, nature and the cosmos. We will be taking a look at childhood and healthy development from a spiritual perspective with reverence to the soul that is incarnating before us.

    AWAKENED METHOD

Hello Developmental-Sovereignty-Symposium Community, I am so honored to be joining this wonderful event. I am a Somatic Therapist, specializing in pre & perinatal birth psychology, family dynamics, and somatic experiential learning.

My story is filled with love in understanding relationships that honor our birthrights. I have been holding space for little ones & families for over 28yrs as a Waldorf teacher, midwife assistant, lactation consultant, birth/postpartum doula, biodynamic craniosacral therapist, neurosensory motor integration therapist, and spiritual developmental parent facilitator.

I also have a B.s. in alternative medicine, a focus in homeopathy, and Masters in Public Health through the lens of "holistic technocracy", crazy but gave insight into our public sick care system. My somatic experiential learning path reflects my curiosity about being fully human in physical form. This has led me to my Ph.D. work in pre & perinatal birth psychology exploring the phenomenological outcome of "how we birth is how we earth".

I have trained with many amazing souls along the way and look forward to growing and sharing all that I have embodied with the developmental sovereign community.

  • Angela Baker

    PARKROSE PERMACULTURE

Angela has been teaching permaculture and sustainable living workshops at her home for years, and now offers short informative videos to help teach those concepts and basic gardening strategies to gardeners everywhere. Angela Baker unschools her four children and permaculture informs her educational philosophy.

“Unschooling is a whole life learning opportunity. It is observing and interacting in everything you do much like permaculture. All experiences in life are an opportunity to integrate what you are seeing and absorbing with who you are as a person and your view of the world and integrating those bits of knowledge with each other to form a wholistic, fully interconnected view of the world, understanding of systems around you of subject matter that you normally would learn about in a segregated way in mainstream education. It ties the way you learn things into real rooted experiences in your life. We know that when our interests are followed, we retain the information better.”

Parkrose Permaculture is a family-run farmette on 1/4 acre in Portland, OR. We specialize in perennial food crops, unusual fruit, beekeeping, duck and chicken-keeping, and permaculture design.
